The course has been developed to present an overview of the major issues in substance abuse, addiction, and recovery. Students will examine theories of addiction and treatment methods from multiple perspectives. The course explores trends in licit and illicit drug use in the United States and examines implications for practice. The course lays the foundation for an understanding of providing services with addicted populations and covers the 12 core functions of addictions counseling.
