This training explores the fundamental principles of Motivational Interviewing as a collaborative, respectful approach to helping people change health risk behaviors such as tobacco use. Participants will gain an appreciation for the power of helping people resolve their ambivalence about change as a precursor to change and practice the core Motivational Interviewing strategies of asking open-ended questions, offering affirmations, reflective listening, using summarization, responding to sustain talk, eliciting change talk and eliciting a commitment to change.
