Work to Recovery training coming up in May
Work to Recovery: Using Evidence Based Employment Practices will take place on May 10, 2017, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Senator Inn, 284 Western Avenue in Augusta. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m.
Susanne Logsdon, National Individualized Placement and Support (IPS) Trainier at the IPS Employment Center of The Rockville Institute, Westat, will lead this one-day training, which will provide employment specialists, vocational rehabilitation counselors, providers and other employment stakeholders with information about what Individualized Placement and Support (IPS) is, how the service is provided and why using this model will help more individuals to be successful with returning to work.
Participants will review the IPS practice principles and the body of research to support its effectiveness, as well as explore strategies to approach and begin building lasting and meaningful employer relationships that lead to employment outcomes. Particular focus will be given to job development and employer engagement.
During the last 11 years, presenter Susanne Logsdon has worked to implement the evidence-based practice model of Supported Employment or IPS, Individualized Placement and Support. She began as an employment specialist at a community-based mental health center in Chicago where she worked directly with individuals diagnosed with severe mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse disorders to gain competitive, preference-based employment within the community. Susanne worked her way up the ranks to become a team leader, an IPS program manager, a state of Illinois IPS Trainer and now a National IPS Trainer with the Employment Center at the Rockville Institute for Westat.
She is passionate about spreading the word about IPS Supported Employment and its effectiveness for helping individuals from all walks of life to not only return to work, but ultimately achieve greater wellness and recovery.
Registration fee is $75, and includes lunch and registration materials.
